Family Advocate/Family Service Worker

Northern Tier Community Action Head Start is hiring a 50% Family Advocate/Family Service Worker in the Coudersport Head Start Center. This position is 37.5 hours/week and includes medical, dental, vision, tuition reimbursement, paid holidays and sick time.

The candidate must have a minimum of a home-based CDA credential or comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate's or bachelor's degree; and demonstrate competency to plan and implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate, and to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families.

A credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / Home Visitor:

The Head Start Home Visitor will plan for and complete weekly, 1.5 hour home visits with families of preschool aged children.

During the course of these visits, home visitors will provide parent education as well as education to the child within the parameters of the Head Start school readiness goals.

Home visitors will also plan for and complete group socialization to encourage social interaction with children on the caseload.

The caseload per visitor is 6 families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / Family Advocate:

Recruits children throughout the program year who meet the guidelines set by the program including the recruitment of professionally diagnosed children with disabilities and other children with special needs. Coordinates activities with the Disabilities Specialist in meeting the objectives of the Mental Health, Disabilities and Child Abuse & Neglect Plans.

Ensures enrollment is kept at the prescribed optimum for the school year by complying with enrollment/attendance regulations. Ensures all openings for children are filled within the required thirty (30) days.

Establishes and maintains ongoing contact with agencies to stimulate shared communication that enables Head Start children and families to avail themselves of needed services.

Promote parent and community involvement and positive public relations for programs and services and serve as a resource person to human service agencies, including health, social service and education.

Completes Family Needs Assessments and develops Family Partnership Agreements.

Works collaboratively with teaching staff to bring cohesion and support to the classroom environment.
