Child Care Information Services

Becoming a Registered/Licensed Child Care Provider

With more parents entering the work force, child care is becoming a rapidly growing career choice among people who have a love for children. Working parents need to know that their children are receiving care from child care providers who are creative, patient and tender in a safe atmosphere that promotes positive well-being. Child care is a partnership between parents and child care providers. As partners, each has a responsibility to a common goal, the well being and development of children.

Types of Providers
Family Day Care Home

State registered family residence with one caregiver providing care for no more than 6 unrelated children.

Group Day Care Home

State licensed facility or residence that provides care for no more than 12 children (additional staff may be needed.)


State licensed facility, number of children is dependant upon square footage & also the number of additional staff.  (Director of Center must have a degree in Early Childhood.)

*Contact the Child Care Information Services (CCIS) office for information on completing a provider agreement to serve children eligible for the subsidized child care program.*

Training for Providers

The CCIS office has a FREE lending library with a variety of resources on child development, health and safety issues, marketing your business, creative activities, etc. which are available for providers to borrow. CCIS notifies providers about local training opportunities. The providers may contact CCIS to request training topics which they have an interest in.

Registered Dietician Consultant

The Registered Dietician will review and make any necessary corrections, and/or provide suggestions, about all menus concerning all of the centers and home based projects currently in operation by the NTCAC Head Start program.  This process takes approximately one hour per month. Certification will be documented on forms provided by NTCAC Head Start and, along with changes and suggestions shall be returned to the Head Start Nutrition Specialist within fourteen days of their submission.

The Provider, in review of menus, will note the need for variety in meal types and make necessary changes/suggestions to ensure that ethnic and cultural preferences are considered and that meals will broaden children’s food experiences.

The Provider will offer expertise and assist as needed in the development of menu plans that will meet the needs of any child that requires a special diet to meet ethnic, religious, medical, or disabilities criteria.

The Provider agrees to conduct training with Head Start staff and parents on nutrition and nutrition related topics as deemed appropriate and/or necessary.
